In Toronto, the Maple Leafs made a significant move by placing forward Nick Abruzzese on waivers Thursday. If he clears, Abruzzese will be heading to the AHL’s Marlies. The 25-year-old had an impressive season last year with 16 goals and 52 points in 71 games with the Marlies.
Meanwhile, in tonight’s preseason contest against the Detroit Red Wings, fans can expect to see big names like Max Pacioretty and Easton Cowan in the lineup. Joining them up front will be Nikita Grebenkin, Roni Hirvonen, Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, Steven Lorentz, Bobby McMann, Alexander Nylander, Cedric Pare, Jacob Quillan, Nick Robertson, and Alex Steeves.
On the defensive side, the Maple Leafs will have Timothy Liljegren, Mikko Kokkonen, Nicolas Mattinen, Philippe Myers, Topi Niemela, Marshall Rifai, and Cade Webber. Goalies Anthony Stolarz and Artur Akhtyamov will be guarding the net during the game.
The Maple Leafs currently hold a preseason record of 2-1-1 and will face the Red Wings once more on Saturday night before their regular season kicks off on Oct. 9 against the Montreal Canadiens.
In other news, Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, and Thomas Chabot were spotted on the ice for practice this morning following their early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. Tkachuk and Stutzle left the game with upper-body injuries and did not return for the third period, while Chabot exited as a precaution.
