The Toronto Maple Leafs hit the ice at the Ford Performance Centre on Saturday for an optional morning skate and practice session. The team was gearing up for their upcoming pre-season game, looking to continue their strong performances on the ice.
One player who made headlines during Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens was Nick Robertson. After an unfortunate incident with teammate William Nylander, Robertson bounced back and showcased his skills on the ice. Reflecting on the incident, Robertson said, “I just said I had to play good so people don’t think about that. It’s good to see Willy’s doing okay. It was just kind of a fluke thing.”
During Thursday’s game, Robertson unintentionally caused Nylander to lose his balance with a push from behind, resulting in a fall and collision with Christian Dvorak. Luckily, Nylander was back at practice the following day and showed no major signs of injury. Robertson went on to score the game-winning goal in the second period, solidifying his strong performance.
“It’s always good to score,” said Robertson. “Whether it goes off your skate, whatever it is, it’s the same feeling. You’re excited to score. Any time you put the puck in the net or play a good game, you always feel good. I’m trying to build off that.”
As the Maple Leafs prepared for their upcoming game, coach Craig Berube emphasized the importance of players like Robertson stepping up and leading by example. With a younger group of players, having individuals with NHL experience like Robertson can make a significant impact on the team’s performance.
Robertson is set to play in his third consecutive pre-season game, looking to continue his strong showing on the ice. With the support of his teammates and coaching staff, Robertson is poised to make a significant contribution to the Maple Leafs as they gear up for the regular season.
