In the latest edition of Ice Chips, we bring you all the latest injury news and roster updates from around the NHL. Let’s dive in and see what’s happening with some of the league’s top teams.
First up, we have the Toronto Maple Leafs. Star forward John Tavares was noticeably absent from practice on Saturday morning due to a lower-body injury. According to TSN’s Mark Masters, Tavares took a hit to his knee from Montreal’s Michael Pezzetta during Thursday’s preseason game, which limited his ice time. Tavares later revealed that his leg was stiffening up, prompting head coach Craig Berube to keep him off the ice. Berube described Tavares as feeling “sore” and listed him as day-to-day.
Over in Montreal, defenseman Kaiden Guhle made progress in his recovery from appendix surgery. Despite not participating in line rushes during practice, TSN’s Kenzie Lalonde reported that Guhle was back on the ice with his teammates. The 22-year-old is coming off a solid season with six goals and 16 assists in 70 games for the Canadiens. His return to full strength will be a welcome sight for the team as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Maple Leafs.
As for the Canadiens’ lineup, Lalonde provided insight into the team’s lines for the upcoming game. With Guhle back in action and Tavares nursing an injury, both teams will be making adjustments to ensure they field the strongest team possible.
