In a potential blow to the team, forward Nazem Kadri was forced to leave Friday’s practice early due to an apparent knee injury, as reported by TSN’s Sallim Valji. Kadri seemed to have suffered a knee-on-knee collision with teammate Blake Coleman, prompting him to immediately head to the locker room for further evaluation.
The 33-year-old centre had an impressive season last year, tallying 29 goals and 75 points in 82 games. His absence from practice raises concerns for his availability moving forward.
In addition to Kadri, forwards Matt Coronato and Martin Pospisil, along with defenceman Jake Bean, will also be sidelined from practice on Friday due to lower-body injuries. Defenceman MacKenzie Weegar will not participate as well, but his absence is attributed to a maintenance day.
Coronato, Pospisil, and Bean are all considered day-to-day with their respective injuries, further adding to the team’s health concerns early in the season.
On a more positive note, forward William Nylander was able to participate in Friday’s practice despite a scary incident during the team’s preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens. Nylander took a hard hit from teammate Nick Robertson which sent him headfirst into Canadiens forward Christian Dvorak’s leg, prompting his exit from the game for precautionary reasons.
However, head coach Craig Berube reassured fans that Nylander’s injury was not serious, stating, “He’ll be OK. He’s fine, nothing to worry about.”
As the NHL season progresses, the team will need to navigate through these injuries and roster changes to maintain their competitiveness on the ice. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
