The Ottawa Senators faced a tough overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres, leaving head coach Travis Green less than pleased with his team’s performance. However, there was one bright spot in the game – goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Ullmark, who was acquired by the Senators in the off-season, made his debut in an Ottawa uniform and impressed everyone with his stellar performance. Despite allowing just one goal on 29 shots over a period and a half, Ullmark’s efforts were not enough to secure a win for the Senators.
“He was great to say the least,” Green commented on Ullmark’s performance. “Very good.”
Despite Ottawa holding a 2-1 lead, a late goal by Isak Rosen tied the game with less than a minute remaining. Noah Ostlund ultimately scored the game-winning goal in overtime, sealing the victory for the Sabres.
Facing a barrage of 24 shots in the first period alone, Ullmark joked about the demanding workload, stating, “I’m glad I got (the shots). You don’t really know how it’s going to go the first game. You have your new routines and everything like that, so I felt a little bit scrambly there in the beginning. But after that, once I kind of settled in, it felt a lot better.”
As the Senators consider making cuts to the roster after the game, Green expressed his disappointment in the players’ performances. “I don’t think there a lot of guys that helped themselves tonight,” he remarked.
Josh Dunne contributed a goal for Buffalo, who remains undefeated in the preseason with a 4-0-0 record. Goaltender Felix Sandstrom made 14 saves to secure the win for the Sabres.
