In Toronto, the Maple Leafs made a roster move on Monday by sending forward Easton Cowan back to the OHL’s London Knights. Cowan, a promising 19-year-old, was the 28th overall pick in the 2023 draft and showed flashes of his potential with two assists in five preseason games. Last year, he lit up the OHL with 34 goals and 96 points in just 54 games, earning himself the title of OHL Most Outstanding Player.
On the injury front, defenceman Jake McCabe returned to practice on Monday after missing Saturday’s preseason finale with an upper-body injury. McCabe, a solid 6-foot-1 blueliner, played 73 games last season and notched eight goals and 28 points. Meanwhile, forward Calle Jarnkrok was absent from practice as he continues to deal with a bothersome lower-body injury that has plagued him throughout training camp. Jarnkrok, a seasoned 33-year-old, tallied 10 goals and 21 points in 52 games last season.
