Veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie has found a new home with the Calgary Flames, solidifying their roster with his one-year, $1.25 million deal, as confirmed by TSN’s Salim Valji.
Barrie, 33, impressed the team during training camp while on a professional tryout basis, showcasing his skills in three preseason games. The Victoria, BC native previously suited up for the Nashville Predators in the 2023-2024 season, tallying a goal and 14 assists in 41 games. He was in the final year of a lucrative three-year, $13.5 million contract he signed with the Edmonton Oilers back in 2021.
Selected 64th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche from the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL, Barrie spent his formative years in the league with the Avs, playing eight seasons with the team. In his 13-year NHL career, spanning stints with the Predators, Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Avalanche, Barrie has accumulated an impressive 505 points from 109 goals and 396 assists in 809 regular-season games. Furthermore, he boasts two goals and 19 assists in 47 postseason appearances.
On the international stage, Barrie has proudly represented Team Canada, notably contributing to their gold medal win at the 2015 IIHF World Championships held in Czechia.
