In the latest edition of Ice Chips, we bring you all the updates on injuries and roster changes from around the NHL.
The hockey world was abuzz with concern as superstar Auston Matthews was forced to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs’ practice early on Tuesday. The 2022 Hart Trophy winner was conspicuously absent from practice the following day, with head coach Craig Berube revealing that Matthews was dealing with an “upper-body issue.” Despite initial fears, Berube assured reporters that the injury was not considered serious. The Maple Leafs later clarified that Wednesday was simply a maintenance day for Matthews.
But Matthews wasn’t the only one missing from practice. Calle Jarnkrok was also sidelined with a lower-body issue, marking his second consecutive day away from the team. The forward is currently listed as day-to-day as he focuses on recovery.
With Matthews out of the lineup, the Maple Leafs had to make some adjustments to their top line. Max Domi stepped in as the center, flanked by Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner. It was a new look for the team, but they remained optimistic about their chances moving forward.
Meanwhile, in Ottawa, goaltender Linus Ullmark made a welcome return to the ice after a brief absence. Ullmark had missed the Senators’ first two playoff games due to a minor injury sustained during training camp. Head coach Travis Green revealed that Ullmark had been dealing with a tweak but expressed hope that the goaltender would be ready to play in the upcoming game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
As the playoffs heat up, every team is facing their own set of challenges. Stay tuned to Ice Chips for the latest updates on injuries, roster changes, and more from the NHL.
