In the world of hockey, the Ottawa Senators are making moves to revamp their lineup in hopes of securing a coveted postseason berth after an eight-season drought. One of the newest faces on the team is veteran forward David Perron, who brings his wealth of experience and leadership qualities to the squad.
Entering his impressive 18th season in the NHL, Perron is no stranger to the rigors of the game. “I want to be a leader for sure,” Perron stated in an interview with TSN1200. “As games get a little more important, a little bigger, that’s usually when I come in more, I like to make a difference in those moments even more.”
Perron’s impact on the ice is undeniable, having scored 17 goals and racked up 47 points in 76 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season. Joining him in the Senators’ new-look lineup are forwards Michael Amadio and Nick Cousins, as well as acquisitions in defenceman Nick Jensen and goaltender Linus Ullmark, all aimed at bolstering the team’s capabilities.
However, the most significant change for the Senators comes in the form of their new head coach, Travis Green. Fresh off a stint as the interim head coach of the New Jersey Devils, Green brings a no-nonsense approach to the team. Perron remarked on Green’s training camp expectations, saying, “He’s pretty open about how hard training camp will be, I think he’s trying to get everyone’s attention to make sure we start right away.”
Despite Green’s reputation for being tough, Perron believes in his fairness and the importance of maintaining the right attitude and work ethic. “You don’t want to be too worried about it, all you want to do is come in with the right mentality and work as hard as you can, and I think that’s what he’s looking for as well,” Perron emphasized.
Green’s coaching prowess has been demonstrated during his tenure with the Vancouver Canucks from 2017-2022, where he led the team to the second round of the playoffs in the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 campaign. With a new lineup, a veteran presence in Perron, and a seasoned coach in Green, the Senators are gearing up for an exciting season ahead, filled with promise and potential.
