In an unfortunate turn of events for the Dallas Stars, top scorer Jason Robertson will miss the majority of the team’s training camp due to surgery to remove a cyst from his foot. Despite this setback, General manager Jim Nill expressed confidence that Robertson will be ready for the start of the season.
The cyst removal surgery took place on July 30, and Robertson has been sidelined for the past six weeks as he was unable to put weight on his foot. Nill assured fans that Robertson will be present during camp, although his activities will be restricted to ensure proper healing. Nill stated, “He will not skate with the main team just because of we’re going to restrict his activity and monitor his foot to make sure everything is healed properly. The plan is maybe late in camp to get a little bit more action. … It’s just really a healing process now.”
Despite this setback, the Stars are gearing up for the upcoming season with training camp slated to begin the following day. The team is focused on their season opener on October 10th in Nashville.
Robertson has been a standout player for the Stars over the past few seasons, leading the team in scoring and demonstrating consistency on the ice. Nill highlighted Robertson’s impressive stats, stating, “He had 80 points (29 goals, team-high 51 assists) last season.” At just 25 years old, Robertson has already amassed an impressive 314 points in his career, showcasing his talent and skill.
This isn’t the first time Robertson has faced challenges during training camp, as he previously missed a significant portion due to a contract holdout. Despite this, he proved his worth on the ice by putting up impressive numbers throughout the season.
Nill shared a humorous exchange between Robertson and coach Pete DeBoer regarding his absence from camp, stating, “He didn’t hurt me last time.” This lighthearted comment showcases Robertson’s confidence and determination to make a strong return to the ice.
As the Stars prepare for the upcoming season, they will be keeping a close eye on Robertson’s recovery and progress. With his talent and dedication, Robertson is sure to make a significant impact once he returns to full strength.
