The Calgary Flames are making moves as they gear up for the upcoming NHL season, with the announcement of two new signings. Defenseman Tyson Barrie has received an invitation to the team’s training camp on a player tryout agreement, while veteran blueliner Jarred Tinordi has inked a one-year, two-way contract.
Barrie, a 33-year-old hailing from Victoria, B.C., put up solid numbers with the Nashville Predators last season, notching one goal and 14 assists in 41 games. Flames fans will be hopeful that he can bring that same level of offensive production to their team. With 509 career points in 809 games, Barrie certainly has the experience and skill set to contribute effectively from the blue line.
Tinordi, on the other hand, comes to Calgary after a stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he tallied nine assists in 52 games. The Millersville, Md., native was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2010 and has since played for a handful of teams in the league. With 30 points in 205 career regular-season games, Tinordi will provide depth and stability to the Flames’ defensive corps.
General manager Craig Conroy expressed his optimism about reaching a deal with restricted free agent Jakob Pelletier before the start of training camp. Pelletier, a 23-year-old forward, showed promise in limited action last season, notching one goal and three points in 13 games with the Flames. With a solid showing in the AHL as well, Pelletier is poised to make an impact at the NHL level.
As the Flames continue to fine-tune their roster, fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the new season. With a mix of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming talent, Calgary is shaping up to be a competitive force in the Western Conference. Stay tuned for more updates as the team prepares for the opening puck drop.
