As a former 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Askarov has shown promise, with impressive stats in the AHL and a desire to prove himself in the NHL.
Despite his limited NHL experience – having played in only three games with two career starts – Askarov has excelled in the AHL, boasting a .911 save percentage and a 2.39 goals-against-average. The transition from the AHL to the NHL is a challenging one, but Askarov believes he is ready for the next level.
Now, with his path to the NHL seemingly blocked by Saros and veteran backup Scott Wedgewood, Askarov has made a bold move by reportedly requesting a trade. The young goaltender is eager to showcase his skills and prove that he is ready to be a full-time NHL goalie.
